Rob Reiner's Trump Derangement Syndrome Hits The Big Screen In New Doc, 'God & Country' | Christian Toto

Surprise, surprise. Rob Reiner’s new anti-Trump doc has a perfect critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes.

"God & Country," opening in select theaters this weekend, lets a director suffering from late-stage Trump Derangement Syndrome shred Christians for embracing the former president.

Reiner produced the documentary, and his partisan fingerprints are all over the production.

The celebrated director’s rage against Trump has become comical in recent years. His X feed teems with broadsides against the former and possible future president, demanding we must vote for President Biden’s re-election or lose our democracy.

He even clings to the RussiaGate hoax.

Reiner blamed so-called "Christian Nationalists" for Trump’s rise during a Newsweek interview tied to "God & Country."

"This movement that they have here seems completely antithetical to the teachings of Jesus … Jesus was about peace and love and helping thy neighbor and those less fortunate than ourselves. And I thought that was something that we should all aspire to. So to me this movement is going totally opposite the teachings of Jesus."

Would Reiner similarly blame Islam for Hamas’ unending reign of terror in the Middle East? If not, why not?

Reiner also blamed, without evidence, Christian Nationalism for the Jan. 6 riots in the same Newsweek interview.

"The Christian nationalist movement… it says that it’s my way or the highway and will resort to violence if we don’t get our way, which is what we saw happening on January 6."

Reiner conveniently ignores the Left’s rampant violence over the last four years, from the "mostly peaceful" BLM/Antifa protests to conservative speakers getting threatened by far-Left protesters for daring to speak on college campuses.

Reiner is given all the press attention a filmmaker could want for his latest project. He spoke with CNN’s Chris Wallace this week about the 2024 presidential campaign and his new film.

He’s all in on President Biden, calling his first term in office "extraordinary" despite, well, the facts on the ground that crushed the president's approval ratings. Reiner’s comments come just days after Special Counsel Robert Hur called Biden a "well-meaning elderly man with a poor memory" who mishandled classified documents.

Or, as Reiner calls him, "He’s a good man, he’s a decent man."

As for Trump, Reiner tells Wallace that he’s the ringleader of the Christian Nationalist movement.

"The Christian nationalists believe that there is no separation of church and state. And their idea is to have a white Christian nation. That's what they're looking for. And that's that that's the thing that galvanizes all of the activity."

Trump attracts a larger portion of black supporters than recent Republican candidates.

Reiner’s directorial career collapsed years before Trump famously descended the escalator in 2015 to embark on his political run.

For a while, few directors could match what Reiner offered.

The actor who brought "All in the Family’s" Meathead to life on the CBS sitcom transitioned into one of Hollywood’s most bankable directors. "This Is Spinal Tap." "The Sure Thing." "Stand By Me." "The Princess Bride." "When Harry Met Sally…" "A Few Good Men." "Misery."

Yet Reiner’s career slowly devolved after that bravura period.

Recent duds like "Shock and Awe," "And So It Goes," "The Magic of Belle Isle," and "LBJ" all failed to ignite at the box office. They also left critics cold.

Making "God & Country" won’t revive Reiner’s professional career. That’s likely not the goal. It’s another way for him to vent his anti-Trump rage while tarring people of faith in the process.
