Jesse Palmer Apologizes for Downwards Hook'em Sign

During last night's TCU at Texas broadcast Jesse Palmer had the temerity to point his hook 'em horns sign facing down.

You knew that wasn't going to fly with ESPN, so the cameras returned to the booth for Palmer's very awkward apology.

Oh, man.

It. Isn't. Offensive.

It's a cheer, upside down.

It has absolutely zero impact on the world at large.

Famine is offensive. War is offensive. Children dying of curable diseases is offensive. Lou Holtz and Mark May both being employed is offensive.   

Hell, the Bachelor television show is much more offensive than this.

But it's Texas and the rules are different with Texas.

Even when they suck and lose at home to a team they're a big favorite over.

Texas has to be placated.

Witness this apology.

Palmer is really lucky Vince Young wasn't in the booth.

First, because Vince would have been bugging him for money. Second, because VY once got into a strip club fight after someone flashed him the downwards hook 'em horns sign.

Honestly, that should have been all NFL scouts needed to see from him to know he wasn't NFL caliber.

(As several of you mentioned on Twitter, Stephen A. Smith can get away with dropping n-bombs on ESPN, but Palmer can't get away with a hand sign that thousands display in stadiums. Palmer should have just claimed he moves his hands really rapidly and we didn't see what we thought we saw. Hell, it worked for Stephen A.)
