Former Trump Advisor Catches Flak For 'One Religion Under God' Comment
Former security advisor to President Donald Trump, Michael Flynn, was a featured speaker at the ReAwaken America conference held in San Antonio this weekend. What Flynn proposed as a unifier for a divided nation in 2021 sparked online outlets and critics to attack his choice of words.
"If we are going to have one nation under God, which we must, we have to have one religion," Flynn said. "One nation under God and one religion under God."
The comments add to the recent attention Flynn has caught for being subpoenaed in an investigation of the Jan. 6 Capitol riots.
According to Bloomberg, Flynn was accused of joining meetings at the White House “during which participants discussed seizing voting machines, declaring a national emergency, invoking certain national security emergency powers, and continuing to spread the false message that the November 2020 election had been tainted by widespread fraud.”
The House committee's indictments targeted Flynn and other Trump associates, including Steve Bannon. Flynn has defended Bannon and what he calls critical overreach from Dems.
"This is the crucifixion of our First Amendment freedom to speak, freedom to peacefully assemble. It's unbelievable," Flynn added at the conference.
Mississippi Democrat Bennie Thompson summarized the committee's objective with targeting the Republican figures.
“The Select Committee needs to know every detail about their efforts to overturn the election, including who they were talking to in the White House and in Congress, what connections they had with rallies that escalated into a riot, and who paid for it all.”
Reuters reported back in August that the FBI's complete investigation of Jan. 6 led to "scant evidence" of it being an actual insurrection.
