Injury Update For Cowboys WR Amari Cooper

The Ghidorah of wide receivers in Dallas may be short one head after the Cowboys announced Amari Cooper will be “cutting it close” to return by the start of training camp on July 21.

After undergoing ankle/foot surgery earlier this year, Cooper has been closely monitored by the Cowboys media. Fans hope that the lead receiver will help get QB Dak Prescott back in the swing of things after his own season-ending injury in 2020.

Receivers Michael Gallup and CeeDee Lamb and head coach Mike McCarthy are also eager for a healthy Cooper to start the season. Having three receivers and a healthy QB would fortify their game plan of winning the division (and more?) with an elite offense and passable defense — the ol’ Barry Switzer formula.

Over the past two seasons with Dallas, Cooper has eclipsed 1,100+ receiving yards and is still considered the primary wideout since being acquired by the Raiders for a 2019 first-round pick.

Even with Gallup, Lamb and a TE room capable of nabbing consistent yards over the middle, Cooper’s deep play ability and improved hands make him one of the most underrated skill players in the league.

Since being drafted in 2015 by the formerly named Oakland Raiders, Cooper continued his success at Alabama with four Pro Bowl selections and a snubbed campaign in 2020 — which was perhaps justified by his measly five touchdown receptions for the year.

Finishing the year with a 6-10 record, the Cowboys’ 2020-2021 season was a tremendous letdown for fans who expected Mike McCarthy and Dak Prescott to lead a new era after Jason Garrett was fired. Garrett moved on to be the offensive coordinator of NFC East rival New York Giants, a team which, incidentally, also produced a 6-10 record.

Mike McCarthy still boasts a .600 career winning percentage as a coach, and the return of Dak Prescott should provide a sizable change in production from the Andy Dalton crutch.

In five games last year, Dak Prescott maintained a career-high in pass completion percentage (68%) and threw for nine touchdowns.

Expect to see more updates on Cooper as the Cowboys will also be stars of the new season of HBO’s Hard Knocks, debuting on August 10.
