Amari Cooper Could Miss The Start Of Training Camp Due To Ankle Injury

The Dallas Cowboys recently got Dak Prescott back on the practice field for the first time since his gruesome leg injury back in Oct. of 2020. Unfortunately, his top pass-catcher might not available at the start of training camp next month.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, star wide receiver Amari Cooper is resting an ankle injury he recently suffered, hoping that it will calm down a bit. In order to ensure that he is 100 percent healthy and ready to produce, that might mean sitting out for a little while.

Since the Cowboys sent the Raiders a first-round pick for Cooper back in 2018, he's been a productive member of the offense. In nine games with the team that season, he produced 53 catches for 725 yards and six touchdowns.

Over the last two years, Cooper has had back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons (2,303 total receiving yards) and 13 touchdowns on his 171 receptions. Cooper produced a 1,000-yard season last year despite a) the injury to Prescott and b) also having CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup in the lineup.

With those two other receivers on the roster, Dallas can afford to let Cooper rest a bit. Once he's back, Mike McCarthy is going to have one of the most potent offenses in the NFL -- as long as that offensive line can hold up.
