Tennessee Titans quarterback and former LSU signal caller
Zach Mettenberger reportedly was sucker-punched at a bar in Nashville, Tenn., over the weekend, according to witnesses and the bar’s owner.
Steve Ford, the owner of Losers Most Wanted Bar & Grill, said Monday that the former Tiger star did not provoke the fight, according to the article by Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean:
“Here’s the truth: The guy said something about ‘Roll Tide!’ to Zach, and Zach turned around and said, ‘Good luck with that,’ ” Ford said. “And the guy’s buddy then sucker-punched Zach.
“I promise you that Mettenberger did not throw a punch. He didn’t do anything. The guy sucker-punched him in the eye, that’s the bottom line, and the guy that punched him started running out the door. My door guys had to chase him down.”
Outkick was tipped off about the incident Sunday night. After making a few calls, witnesses alleged to us that the man who punched Mettenberger was also an Alabama fan and that the duo had been trying to talk trash with Mettenberger and Titan offensive tackle Taylor Lewan earlier in the night as well. Fights are rare at Losers, a midtown bar in Nashville not far from Vanderbilt University.
No police were called and no charges have been filed in the incident, although Outkick has been told that Mettenberger, presently the Titans’ third-string quarterback, has a loose tooth.
The alleged ‘Bama fan puncher and his friend remain at large, likely reading this article and simultaneously Google-searching images of Nick Saban shirtless.
Roll Tide, indeed.
