Alabama, Auburn Both Pull Off Sunday Commitments

Alabama and Auburn are at two very different places on the recruiting trail right now. The Tide have climbed all the way up to No. 5, while the Tigers sit all the way down at No. 63. That stark contrast says a lot about where both programs are currently.

Sunday was a win for everyone, however, as both schools landed much-needed commitments.

First, Auburn landed four-star running back Damari Alston. Though ranked No. 300 overall, the Atlanta, Georgia native is only the second four-star commitment for the Tigers, which shows how much his pledge means to the class.

There's a lot to like about Alston too. He did choose Auburn over LSU, Alabama, Penn State and several others, after all. At 5-foot-10, 205 pounds, he's the do-it-all type of back who could be an eventual replacement option -- or at the very least, a change of pace option -- for Tank Bigsby.

Not to be outdone, Alabama also secured a pledge of its own.

Shawn Murphy, a four-star linebacker out of Manassas, Virginia, became commitment No. 12 for the Crimson Tide. According to Rivals.com, Murphy is rated as a five-star, top 30 prospect. But the 247Sports Composite Rankings have him sitting as a four-star and rated No. 66 overall.

Still, he's now the second top-10 linebacker in Alabama's 2022 class.

At 6-2, 215 pounds, Murphy will need to add size and strength to hold up at the point of attack, but he already plays fast downhill and displays plenty of physicality needed for the next level. He should make a valuable addition to Nick Saban's latest class.

We'll see where both of these classes trend after Sunday.
