Aggressive Padres In Talks To Land Yu Darvish, Perhaps Others From Cubs

In the event landing Blake Snell didn't convince you that the San Diego Padres are serious about next season ... well, it appears they aren't finished.

According to multiple reports, including one from The Athletic, the Padres are "deep in talks" to acquire pitcher Yu Darvish from the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs would receive multiple players from the Padres in return, The Athletic reported.

Veteran MLB insider Jon Heyman is also hearing the deal could be expanded to include either Cubs catcher Willson Contreras or catcher Victor Caratini.

This deal, should it come to fruition, would be another attempt from general manager A.J. Preller to put the Padres in serious contention quickly -- at least on paper. The Padres are said to be the early favorites for Korean League star shortstop Ha-Seong Kim.

Darvish, 34, is a four-time All-Star. He compiled an NL-best eight wins with a 2.01 ERA and 93 strikeouts in 76 innings last season.
