It remains to be seen how much influence the polls will have now that we’re entering a college football playoff era. I tend the influence will still be substantial because I don’t believe the committee is going to rock the public perception boat that much, meaning if you aren’t ranked in the top six it will be tough for you to make the playoff, but we’ll have to see whether that’s true.

In the meantime, here’s the coaches preseason poll.

1. Florida State

2. Alabama

3. Oklahoma

4. Oregon

5. Auburn

6. Ohio State

7. UCLA

8. Michigan State

9. South Carolina

10. Baylor

11. Stanford

12. Georgia

13. LSU

14. Wisconsin

15. Southern Cal

16. Clemson

17. Notre Dame

18. Arizona State

19. Ole Miss

20. Texas A&M

21. Kansas State

22. Nebraska

23. North Carolina

24. Texas

25. Washington

By conference, that’s 7 SEC teams, 6 Pac 12, 4 from the Big 12, 4 from the Big Ten, and 3 from the ACC.

Toss in Mizzou at 26, Florida at 27 and Mississippi State at 29 and 10 of the SEC’s teams are in the top 29.
