11-Year-Old Boy Runs On The Field During Texans-49ers Game, Scares Kyle Shanahan

Kyle Shanahan was just trying to go over his play sheet Sunday when he got an unexpected guest on the sideline in the form of an 11-year-old boy who had run across the Levi’s Stadium turf. It was about as rare as it gets in the fan on the field department. Good luck finding another instance where a kid as young as 11 ran onto the field.

If you’re shocked, imagine how Shanahan felt.

“That scared the hell out of me. It threw me off so bad. I didn’t know what was going on,” the 49ers head coach said after Sunday’s 23-7 win over the Texans. “Now I feel bad, I wish I had [fist bumped] the kid. Respect. I don’t know how he got down there.”

“I was just looking at my call sheet and I hear a soft voice in front of me saying ‘Holy cow, Kyle Shanahan.’

“I didn’t know if it was my son at first or what but it startled me a little bit and then I realized it was a kid. I’ve never seen a kid run on the field. So then I said, ‘Wow, how’d you get down here.’

“And then security got him. I wish I was able to give him something.”

How did a boy get loose from his parents and onto the field?

1. Let’s remember it’s the Bay Area and the weirdos live differently; there’s a chance a parent put the kid up to this

2. The child decided to run when mom or dad weren’t looking

3. A sibling dared him to do it and he had no choice but to take off

4. Maybe the kid & his boys decided to catch a game and he wanted to end the home schedule with a bang

Hey, at least the kid wasn’t sitting at home playing video games or pulling carjackings in Chicago.

Keep in mind, Levi’s Stadium has one of those massive field-level clubs that serves as a restaurant, bar and social gathering spot for fans who have the money to hang in such clubs. At this point, it’s unclear if the boy came from a field-level club or out of the stands.

It’s also unclear what stadium security did with the kid after he was hauled off the field. Stay tuned.
