The Detroit Tigers Ruined Their City Connect Jersey Reveal With A Ridiculously Corny Hype Song

Let me first start by saying I really, really look forward to each and every new City Connect uniform reveal in the MLB. I’m a sucker for uniforms, there’s no two ways about it.

That is why I was stoked to see that the Detroit Tigers had dropped their earlier this moning. And holy cow did they come up with a doozy.

The design is nearly flawless, and perfectly encapsulates the spirit of the Motor City. Everything from the major details (color scheme, the tiger eyes) to the minor ones (the WIN number on the side of the cap, love this detail) was crafted with stunning expertise.

I’m not even a Tigers fan, and I’m thinking of placing an order for one of the jerseys.

If that’s all the Tigers did with their uniform announcement, I’d say this was a roaring success (pun intended). Unfortunately, it wasn’t.

As part of the reveal, Detroit released an original song performed by VALID, Stretch Money, and G Mac to add an extra level of hype to the moment. But the tune did just the opposite.

I don’t want to completely trash the song, because I know that must have taken a lot of effort that most teams simply wouldn’t dream of putting in. It seriously had potential; the music was exciting and brought great energy, and the first verse was actually solid.

But after that, it completely fell off the rails.

By verses two and three, the lyrics got so cheesy, and the tidal wave of baseball puns was too much for even me to handle. Even the cameos in the video looked like they were trying their hardest to manufacture some level of excitement as the rappers continued.

Despite a great beginning, the song ended up being more corny than a 10-acre plot of farmland in Nebraska. Not even a cameo appearance by Eminem at the ending could redeem just how cringe this tune was.

Detroit should have just let the uniforms do the talking. Because once the musicians actually started talking, it kinda ruined the moment.
