Social Media Roasts Paul Bissonnette For Saying The Maple Leafs Would Score Five On Jeremy Swayman

Paul Bissonnette was so, so confident that the Toronto Maple Leaf would beat the Boston Bruins in Game 4 of their Stanley Cup playoff series.

"The NHL on TNT" studio analyst frankly, he had every right to be. Heading into the game, the Bruins held a 2-1 edge in the best of seven series, and this was Toronto’s last guaranteed home game of the season. Losing would put Toronto in a dire situation, and they were desperate to avoid that.

The Maple Leafs also welcomed back right-winger William Nylander, who missed the first few games of the series with an undisclosed injury. The forward scored 40 goals this season, second on Toronto only to Auston Matthews and his league-leading 69 tallies.

With a full complement of offensive weapons at their disposal, Bissonnette believed that Toronto would finally be able to answer the riddle posed by Jeremy Swayman, who at this point in the series had only given up three goals in two games.

After looking at all of these factors, Bissonnette boldly declared that Toronto would light up Swayman for five goals.

I don’t know if Bissonnette put any money on this bet, but hopefully he didn’t. The night didn’t pan out at all like he thought it would.

The Bruins Ended Up Winning, And Toronto Only Scored Once

Despite an onslaught of offensive pressure late in the game, Toronto just couldn’t find a way to get a lot of pucks past Swayman. For the sixth time this season (including the regular season), the Bruins' netminder emerged victorious from a matchup with the Maple Leafs.

In the third period, he made timely save after timely save, including this one on defenseman Joel Edmudson that kept the Bruins up two.

Or this one, when he robbed Nylanat point-blank range.

Thanks to goals from James van Riemsdyk, Brad Marchand, and David Pastrnak, the Bruins emerged victorious, 3-1. Swayman stopped 24 of 25 shots, and now boasts a .958 save percentage and a 1.32 goals against average in his six games against Toronto.

Fans Roasted Bissonnette For Saying The Leafs Would Score 5

After the game, social media was quick to remind Bissonnette that his comments didn't age well.

Game 5 will be in Boston at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. If Swayman starts again, Bissonnette might want to be careful about betting against him.
