Oakland A's Getting Crushed In Attendance By Teams People Don't Know Exist

The attendance problem for the Oakland A's has hit a truly embarrassing level.

The A's are pulling up roots and eventually moving to Las Vegas. It's still not exactly crystal clear what the timeline looks like amid ongoing confusion, but the team will eventually move to Sin City. That is happening. There are still a lot of questions that need to be answered once the team starts playing at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento in 2025.

One question that doesn't need to be answered is that fans in Oakland don't really care about the A's anymore. In fact, fans care so little that there are teams you've never heard of drawing more fans.

Oakland A's beat in attendance by more than 550 teams in America.

A whopping total of 553 teams in America are drawing more fans on average than the 6,410 fans the A's draw on an average night at the Oakland Coliseum, according to Sportico.

That includes every single NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL (minus the Coyotes) and MLS team in America. That's not shocking. Where things do get shocking is when you start hearing about some of the other teams beating an MLB team in attendance.

There are a total of 13 minor league baseball teams, 11 AHL, seven ECHL teams, seven USL teams and an NBA G League team are also all beating the A's. Have you ever heard of the Lehigh Valley IronPigs? Neither have I, but they're drawing 7,990 fans at an average minor league game. The AHL Cleveland Monsters are averaging 10,347, according to the same Sportico report.

It's a bloodbath when compared to college football. Roughly 200 college football teams draw more fans on average. That includes 58 FCS programs and DIII programs St. John's and Wisconsin-Whitewater.

An MLB team getting beat in attendance by a state school located in Whitewater, Wisconsin is hilarious. It's even way funnier for me because my grandfather used to be an official at the program. Might have to give him a call.

The embarrassment isn't done just yet for the Oakland A's. Let's get into the real nitty gritty of just how bad it is. A total of 78 men’s basketball, 14 women’s basketball, 12 baseball, eight women’s gymnastics, six men’s ice hockey and two women’s volleyball squads, according to Sportico. Gymnastics are drawing more fans. Beyond humiliating for the A's.

Hopefully, the A's are able to turn a ship around whenever the team officially plays in Las Vegas, but given the lack of energy surrounding the move, I wouldn't bet on it. Just a complete disaster and blemish for the MLB. Let me know your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
