Clippers Steve Ballmer Introduces New Way For Fans To Experience Game

Notorious wild man and billionaire Steve Ballmer is at it again, only this time he's bringing his wild ideas and making them a reality.

The former Microsoft CEO and entrepreneur is taking his creative technological aspects and bringing them into the sports world with a new ticketing concept for the Los Angeles Clippers that he believes will revolutionize how fans experience a live game.

Allow me to introduce "The Wall," coming to the Clippers new Intuit Dome next season.

BALLMER BELIEVES THE WALL WILL CHANGE LIVE SPORTS

In a video in which he's screaming on stage while also wearing a bicycle helmet - ya know, totally normal behavior for Ballmer, the Los Angeles Clippers owner pitched his plan to fans.

Beginning next season, Clippers fans will be able to purchase a season pass to an exclusive area behind one of the baskets that includes 51 rows at a discounted price. And I mean a real discount - as low as $30 a game. The best part? Ballmer is giving it back to the OG's and the die-hard fans - via a first come first-serve basis. The Clippers' owner explained that using new technology, as soon as the ticket is scanned at Intuit Arena, it will coincide with the lowest available section in The Wall.

Even better - fans will be able to sit as close as Row 3 of the court, without having to pay nearly the same amount that A-lister celebs did. (Content idea if I'm an actor: Get in on this and become a fixture for the Clippers. Great way to launch a ‘Just one of the guys!' persona).

Other rules for The Wall area include that no opposing teams will be able to wear any jerseys or gear, and that you aren't allowed to root for the opponent. Also, Ballmer says that fans will have the opportunity to opt into technology that will measure how much they are on their feet and rooting for the team, which would then allow for discounted items inside the Intuit Dome.

FANS AREN'T ENTIRELY SOLD ON IT

Fans' reactions, however, are mixed. A Front Office Sports poll found that just 56 percent of more than 10,000 respondents said that Ballmer's concept would "be awesome," with 44 percent saying that "it will flop." Based on comments, some of the naysayers were upset that Ballmer was using surveillance-level technology to track a fan's movements, while others questioned the loyalty of Clippers fans to continually show up to games.

That may be why Ballmer is doing this in the first place. With the Clippers having never won a Conference Championship.

The overall concept of "The Wall" has been implemented in other sports like soccer for years now. Even college football has had similar setups with a first-come, first-serve basis.

If it works, it could look awesome:

However, if the currently fourth-place Clippers that are heading to the playoffs suddenly start going back to their old ways of never winning a league or Conference Championship, things could look very awkward.

But as Steve Ballmer has done his whole entire life, he's willing to roll the dice and take those chances - and he has a pretty successful track record of doing so!
