Kevin Costner's Civil War Spy Series Sounds Fascinating: DETAILS

Kevin Costner's upcoming Civil War series sounds very interesting.

I was searching the web this morning when I came across some news that Costner has a Civil War series that will premiere at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival in June.

As a fan of Costner's work, I found myself a bit surprised that I'd never heard of the upcoming series "The Gray House." Naturally, I had to dive in, and I like what I found.

Kevin Costner has an upcoming Civil War series

Costner is the series' executive producer of "The Gray House," and Morgan Freeman is also involved behind the scenes. While he's not on camera in a major role, the fact Costner is running the show should have people very excited.

Variety wrote the following details about the series:

"The six-episode limited series tells the hidden-history tale of four Southern women — a Virginia socialite and her mother, a formerly enslaved Black woman and a high-end prostitute — who served as key espionage agents for the Union. The foursome are credited as unsung heroes who helped end the nation’s brutal cleavage in 1865. Mary-Louise Parker, Amethyst Davis, Daisy Head and Ben Vereen lead the ensemble cast."

Costner also released the following statement about the upcoming series:

"As a storyteller, I’ve always looked to history. ‘The Gray House’ is an important American story, yet is relatable to audiences around the world because it’s a true saga of sacrifice for freedom. It is an epic spy adventure that will thrill, educate and inspire viewers. I would have liked to direct it myself, but I’m proud to be part of this project. The considerable talent of director Roland Joffé has given us a portrait of four incredibly brave women against the sweeping backdrop of war, romance, history and tragedy."

As long as "The Gray House" doesn't turn into some woke nonsense, I think it sounds wildly fascinating. We already know female spy stories can be great. Look no further than "Alias" or "Special Ops: Lioness" for proof of that fact, but as far as I know, there's never been a super popular spy story set during the Civil War.

Costner will change that. He's also been insanely busy. The two "Horizon: An American Saga" movies drop this summer. He made this series, and he's trying to get back on "Yellowstone." The man definitely has a lot going on. There's no question about that at all.

There's no known release date yet for "The Gray House," but something tells me it will do very well with audiences whenever it's released. Let me know your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
