Netflix's New Mystery-Thriller Looks Absolutely Wild: TRAILER

Netflix's new series "Eric" with Benedict Cumberbatch looks like an absolutely trippy ride.

The plot of the limited series from the streaming powerhouse is described as follows:

Set in 1980s New York, Eric is a new emotional thriller from Abi Morgan following the desperate search of a father when his nine year old son disappears one morning on the way to school. Vincent, one of New York’s leading puppeteers and creator of the hugely popular children’s television show, ‘Good Day Sunshine,’ struggles to cope with the loss of his son, Edgar, becoming increasingly distressed and volatile. Full of self-loathing and guilt around Edgar’s disappearance, he clings to his son’s drawings of a blue monster puppet, ERIC, convinced that if he can get ERIC on TV then Edgar will come home. As Vincent’s progressively destructive behaviour alienates his family, his work colleagues, and the detectives trying to help him, it’s Eric, a delusion of necessity, who becomes his only ally in the pursuit to bring his son home.

Does that sound bizarre and wild? Well, wait until you watch the trailer. It's next level strange, but I don't exactly hate it. Give it a watch below, and hit me with your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.

Netflix drops trailer for "Eric."

I honestly have no idea what to make of this trailer and TV show premise. On one hand, it looks absolutely fascinating and wildly intriguing.

Kid goes missing, they can't find him for at least a week, everyone is freaking out and it appears Cumberbatch's character might know more than he's letting on.

On the other hand, it looks utterly outrageous. Is it just me or does it look like one of these puppets came to life at the end of the trailer? That's definitely what it looked like to me, and that's just an insane thing to see in a serious trailer.

However, I'm guessing it all takes place in the main character's head. Again, that intrigues me. If it turns out this series is actually about puppets that come to life, then I'm out on it. I'm out so fast your head will spin.

The good news is Benedict Cumberbatch is a hell of an actor, and it's hard to imagine he'd be in anything that wasn't high quality. Let's hope it's solid when it drops May 30th. Definitely hit me with your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
